Additional Services Available from SMTC along with instructions:

ALL WAITING - $1.50/Month
A short tone signals that another person is trying to call you when you are on the phone.  You can put one call on hold while handling the second call, or alternate between the two.

To Use Call Waiting:

  1. When you hear a brief tone, quickly press and release the receiver button on your phone.  Answer the second call.
  2. To return to the first call or alternate between calls, quickly press and release the receiver button each time.
  3. You may also answer the waiting call by hanging up and waiting for the phone to ring.
    To cancel either call, simply hang up.  When your phone rings again, you’ll be connected with the person who’s still on the line

To Cancel Call Waiting Per Call:

  1. Before making your call, push *70 on your Touchtone phone (or dial 1170 on your rotary dial phone).  You will hear 3 short tones followed by a dial tone.
  2. Place your call.
  3. Call Waiting is automatically restored when you hang up.

CALLER ID - $5.00/MONTH
Lets you know who is calling before you answer the phone.  Caller ID requires a display unit which will also store names and telephone numbers of recent callers.

To Use Caller ID:

  1. Once your Caller ID service is activated, just follow the instructions with your display unit to install and operate
  2. Calls marked PRIVATE, ANONYMOUS or BLOCKED CALL are from callers who have chosen to block delivery of their name and number.

To Block Anonymous Calls:

  1. Use Anonymous Call Rejection, a free service for Caller ID customers, by lifting the receiver and dialing *77 (rotary1177).
  2. Anonymous Call Rejection informs callers who have blocked their name and number that the party they are trying to reach does not accept blocked calls.  The blocked caller is informed that they can unblock their call by hanging up, picking up the receiver, dialing *82 (rotary 1182) and redialing the telephone number.
  3. To cancel Anonymous Call Rejection, lift the receiver and dial *87 (rotary 1187).

CALLER ID BLOCKING OPTIONS:
Because there may be occasions when you want to call without having your name or number displayed, the following options are available:

Per Call Blocking
Blocks your name and number on a per call basis.  To use, dial *67 (1167 from rotary phones) before you dial the phone number you are calling.  There is no charge to use Per Call Blocking and it is automatically on your line.

Line Blocking
Blocks your name and number on all the calls you make unless you unblock with *82.  Line Blocking is automatic once you have requested that it be added to your line. To remove blocking on just one call, press *82 (1182 on rotary phones).  Use the Call Unblock, *82 before you dial the number.  This will allow your name and number to display to Caller ID customer on just that one call.

CALL FORWARDING - $1.50/month
Lets you temporarily forward calls to another number you select.

To Use Call Forwarding:

  1. Push *72 on your Touchtone phone (or dial 1172 on your rotary phone).
  2. When you hear a second dial tone, dial the number where you want calls to go.  Wait for that person to answer.
  3. If the line is busy or no one answers, hang up and repeat steps 1 and 2.  Two quick tones mean Call Forwarding is working.
  4. Check that your calls will be forwarded by pushing *72 on your Touchtone phone (rotary 1172).  A busy signal tells you Call Forwarding is in effect.
  5. Remove Call Forwarding by pushing *73 (rotary 1173). Two quick tones followed by a dial tone means your calls are no longer being transferred.

CALL TRACE - $10.00 Per Use
With Call Trace you can receive assistance from SMTC or your local police department if you receive harassing or obscene telephone calls. This service is available to customers on a per pay use.

To Use Call Trace:

  1. Lift the receiver and press *57 (rotary 1157) immediately after hanging up from the call.
  2. Follow the recorded instructions to take appropriate action.
  3. The telephone number of the caller will be recorded by SMTC.  Deterrent action will be taken by your local law enforcement agency.
  4. You will not be given the name or the telephone number of the person who called you.
  5. If it becomes a life threatening situation, contact law enforcement immediately.

CONTINUOUS REDIAL - $.50 Per use up to $3.00
With Continuous Redial you can let your phone redial to busy numbers while you make and receive other calls.  This service is available to customers on a charge per use basis up to a maximum of $10.00 per month.

To Use Continuous Redial:

  1. When a call you are trying to place is busy, hang up, pick up the receiver again and press *66.
  2. Your phone will continue to dial the busy signal for up to thirty minutes.
  3. When your call connects, you are notified by a distinctive ring, simply pick up the phone and the call will connect.
  4. To cancel Continuous Redial, lift the receiver, press *86.

LAST CALL RETURN - $.50 per use up to $3.00
Get the number* of the last person who called.  This service is available to customers on a pay per use basis up to a maximum of  $10.00 per month. (*Some numbers not provided.)

To Use Last Call Return:

  1. Lift up the receiver and press *69.
  2. The number of the missed call will be heard.
  3. If you want to redial the call, press 1 and your phone will redial the number.

DISTINCTIVE RINGING - $2.00/Month
With Distinctive Ringing you can tell by a distinctive ring when designated people are calling.

To Use Distinctive Ringing:

  1. You can store up to 15 different numbers.
  2. To establish or change your priority, simply touch *61 and follow the recorded instructions.
  3. To cancel Priority Call, press *81.

SELECTIVE CALL FORWARDING - $2.00/Month
Selective Call Forwarding transfers calls from specific numbers to another phone number of your choice.

To Use Selective Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift up the receiver and press *63 and follow the recorded instructions.
  2. To cancel Selective Call Forwarding, lift the receiver, press *83 and follow the recorded instructions.

SPEED CALLING - $1.50/Month
Allows you to reach 8 or 30 frequently called numbers by dialing just one or two digits instead of the entire phone number.

To Program Speed 8:

  1. Assign a single digit code from 2 through 9 for each phone number.
  2. Press *74 (rotary 1174).
  3. Press in your selected code, followed by the phone number.*  A tone indicates the number has been stored.

To Program Speed 30:

  1. Assign a two digit code from 20 through 49 for each phone number.
  2. Press *75 (rotary 1175).
  3. Press in your selected code, followed by the phone number.*  A tone indicates the number has been stored.

To Use Speed Calling:

  1. Dial the selected code, followed by #.  *Remember to include the area code for long distance calls.

THREE WAY CALLING - $1.50
Allows you to talk to two different people at the same time, to add a second person to your call, or to put one call on hold and make a second call. Can be used for local and long distance calls.

To Use Three Way Calling:

  1. Put your first call on hold by pushing, then releasing the receiver button on your phone.
  2. Wait for three brief tones and a dial tone.  Make your second call.
  3. When that person answers, firmly push, then release the receiver button to connect all three of you.  You may talk privately with the second person before making the three-way connection.
  4. If the third persons line is busy or theres no answer, push the receiver button twice to return to the original call.
  5. The first call will end when that person hangs up.
  6. The second call will end when you push, then release the receiver button.
  7. Both calls will end when you hang up.

VOICE MAIL - $3.95/Month for Basic
Voice Mail records your incoming calls when you cannot answer or when your line is busy.

Mailbox Set-up:

  1. Enter *98
  2. Main Menu:  Press 9 for mailbox setup.
  3. Press 1:  Greeting options.  (You can disregard this step if you choose to use the default greeting.)

    Press 4:  Record your greeting.
    Press #:  End recording function.
    Press 1:  Listen to greeting.
    Press 2:  Save greeting.  (Greeting must be saved to be activated)
    Press 3:  Delete greeting.
    Press 4:  Re-record greeting, then follow steps 3-5 again.
    Press *:  Return to mail box set-up.
  4. Press 2:  Change password.

    Enter new password, followed by the # key.  (The password is any series of up to 16 digits you choose.)
  5. Press 4:  Disable/Enable Auto-Login. (Auto-Login defaults to on which enables you to access your mailbox from your home phone without having to enter your password. Should you want to enter your password from your home phone, you will have to disable the Auto-Login feature.)
  6. Press *:  Return to main menu.
    To Access Your Mailbox From Your Home Phone:
    Enter *98.  (If you DO NOT have Auto-Login enabled, you will need to enter your mailbox number which is your 7-digit telephone number, then your password followed by the # key)
    Press 1:  New messages.
    Press 2:  Saved messages.
    Press *:  Return to main menu.

To Access Your Mailbox From A Remote Phone:

  1. Dial your home telephone number.
  2. Press the * key when hear your recorded greeting.
  3. When prompted, enter your password followed by the # key.
  4. Press 1:  New messages.
  5. Press 2:  Saved messages.
  6. Press *:  Return to main menu.

Listen to messages:

  1. Press 1:  Play or re-play message.
  2. Press 2:  Save message and go to next.
  3. Press3:  Delete message and go to next.
